Iberian Peninsula

Mention Spain and images of bullfighters, colorful flamenco dancers, and Don Quixote spring to mind, but take a Globus guided tour to Spain and you'll discover so much more.

Spain is a country filled with unique architecture, medieval villages, savory cuisine, and important works of art. You might find yourself strolling through the world-famous Guggenheim or Prado Museums…or down the streets of Pamplona, the "City of Bulls.

" Visit the Mosque of the Caliphs in Cordoba and Granada's Water Gardens of the Generalife, pay respects at the tomb of Columbus, and marvel at Gaudi's extraordinary La Sagrada Familia cathedral…or maybe soak in the sun on the sandy beaches of the Costa del Sol, savor the views from the Rock of Gibraltar, or light a candle and join the procession of pilgrims in Fatima.

Some cities have looks, other cities have personality. The sevillanos – lucky devils – get both, courtesy of their flamboyant, charismatic, ever-evolving Andalucian metropolis founded, according to myth, 3000 years ago by the Greek god Hercules.
Spread across steep hillsides that overlook the Rio Tejo, Lisbon has captivated visitors for centuries. Windswept vistas reveal the city in all its beauty: Roman and Moorish ruins, white-domed cathedrals, grand plazas lined with sun-drenched cafes. The real delight of discovery though, is delving into the narrow cobblestone lanes.
Take a flight to the romantic atmosphere of Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, in its enchanting setting on the banks of the River Douro. An important trading port with a centuries-old history, birthplace of the famous Port wine, Porto enjoys a rich cultural heritage. With its mediaeval centre and Baroque churches, its neoclassical mansions and the colourful old district of Ribeira (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) by the river, and the modern world-class museums – Porto is a city which captures the heart and senses of every visitor.
Nestled in the crook of the Badia de Palma, Mallorca's capital is the most agreeable of all Mediterranean towns. Shaped and defined by the sea and backed by not-so-distant mountains, it is a city of open horizons and oft-blue skies, with good looks and a festive nature.
Don't bypass the bustling capital, the port of Santa Cruz, in your haste to reach the beaches. This good looking and wholly Spanish city is home to evocative, brightly painted buildings, sophisticated and quirky shops, excellent museums, a showstopping auditorium, and a tropical oasis of birdsong, fountains and greenery in the city park. It also has a good range of quality accommodation and restaurants, plus an excellent bus system, making it a sensible base for exploring Tenerife’s northeast.
A Unesco biosphere reserve, Lanzarote is an intriguing island with an extraordinary geology of 300 volcanic cones, at the same time ticking all the right good-time boxes.
Marbella is the Costa del Sol’s classiest (and most expensive) resort. This wealth glitters most brightly along the Golden Mile, a tiara of star-studded clubs, restaurants and hotels stretching from Marbella to Puerto Banús, the flashiest marina on the Costa del Sol, where black-tinted Mercs slide along a quayside of luxury yachts. Marbella has a magnificent natural setting, sheltered by the beautiful Sierra Blanca mountains, as well as a surprisingly attractive casco antiguo (old town) replete with narrow lanes and well-tended flower boxes.
Read up on your Nasrid history, slip a copy of Federico García Lorca’s Gypsy Ballads into your bag, and acquire a working knowledge of Andalucía’s splendid Moorish architectural heritage – Granada is calling and its allure is hard to ignore.
One building alone is enough to put Córdoba high on any traveller's itinerary: the mesmerising multiarched Mezquita. One of the world's greatest Islamic buildings, it's a symbol of the worldly and sophisticated Islamic culture that flourished here more than a millennium ago when Córdoba was the capital of Islamic Spain, and Western Europe's biggest and most cultured city.
Ibiza Town and San Antonio are two of the biggest resorts and home to the island's legendary clubbing scene. It's here - and at spots between the two - that nights are spent partying and days are spent recovering. Playa d'en Bossa also attracts its fair share of clubbers. Pacha, Eden, Es Paradis, Space, Amnesia, Sankeys Ibiza and Privilege are the big clubs.
While Ibiza deserves its 'party capital of the planet' crown, it also offers stunning beaches, high-end shopping, chic bars and fabulous hippy markets...
