Built on the slopes of Tymfi, the small and large Papigo are communities of the prefecture of Ioannina, with a total population of 357 inhabitants. They are typical examples of Zagorian architecture and have been declared as traditional settlements.

The small and the big Papigo are two of the 46 villages of the residential, cultural and historical unit of Zagori, with a total population of 360 inhabitants. They are located about 60 km northeast of Ioannina, in the shadow of Astraka (peak of Tymfi or Gamila) under the imposing towers that dominate the whole area forming, in the north the gorge of Aoos and in the southwest the imposing gorge of Vikos, Voidomatis. The large Papigo is located at an altitude of 900 meters and the small Papigo at an altitude of 980 meters and are about 2 km apart.
